Abstract

This paper discusses the contribution of Visual studies -and visual culture- to Social studies of art, as a wider area of knowledge. Thus, three substantial contributions for the analysis of visual experiences are identified: the production of knowledge from a transdisciplinary logic; a broad look when talking about visual practices -since artistic practices do not have a monopoly on visuality-; and thinking about the production and role of images in the public scene from new perspectives. These characteristics are important, for example, for the analysis of the visual dimension of the current social struggle in different Latin American countries. It is considered that this will be very important to face the study of images as repertoires of collective action in contemporary times with new theoretical and conceptual horizons.
