Métodos cualitativos y objetividad

Abstract

Al obtener, analizar y narrativizar los datos, los métodos cualitativos se suelen ubicar en un lugar cuya única certeza parece ser la de buscar oponerse a una ?cuantificación? de la vida humana. El particularismo (requisito sine qua non de cualquier conocimiento empírico posible) pareciera arrastrar a las investigadoras e investigadores cualitativos a abandonar los círculos que frecuentan las ?altas teorías?. El conocimiento teórico, al posicionarse en un horizonte superior al de los particularismos, se desliga de hecho de la empiria, al mismo tiempo que el conocimiento concreto, cualitativo, parece tan ingeneralizable que se confunde con conocimientos microscópicos, supuestamente demasiado contextualizados y personificados. La posmodernidad abrevará en esta paradoja. Sin embargo, este dilema no es abstracto en un mundo signado por todo tipo de violencias fruto de conflictos y diferencias sociales. De ahí la importancia de un planteo epistemológico sobre los estándares de validez en ciencias sociales, atento a la participación de los actores definidos dentro de la narrativa científica. Después de desarrollar la manera en la que la etnometodología se ajusta a nuestro posicionamiento epistemológico, expondré algunos resultados provisorios de mi investigación cualitativa en contextos de privación de la libertad.
