Abstract

Statements in psychiatric epidemiology (mathematical and experimental) should be based on carefully designed researches in which all factors involved in the study should be considered: the population that is the object of the analysis; the method of the population segment; the techniques for the case finding for the diseases; the extrapolation of the compiled information. Only taking these factors into account can we reach an accurate hypothesis in a subject as complex as the one that we are studying. Throughout a study of epidemiological psychiatry with a mathematical/statistical foundation, which took place between 1997 and 2002, a hypothesis has been formulated regarding the prevalence of Alzheimer dementias, Vascular dementias, and other dementias following ICD-10, DSM-III-R, DSM-IV-TR criteria, in the Argentine population over 65 years old.
