La Familia Arteriviridae está formada por un único género, Arterivirus, cuya especie tipo es el virus de la Arteritis equina (EAV). Pertenecen a esta familia, además, el virus de la deshidrogenasa láctica del ratón (LDV), el del síndrome respiratorio y reproductivo porcino (PRRSV) y el de la fiebre hemorrágica de los simios (SHFV). Las infecciones naturales producidas por los Arterivirus son restrictas a una sóla especie hospedadora.
