Herpetofauna de la Puna

Abstract

La Puna constituye una región muy particular por sus características geográficasy climáticas. En este ambiente extremo vive un conjunto sumamente interesante deanfibios y reptiles. En la actualidad se encuentran nueve especies de anuros, repartidas en tres géneros (Pleurodema, Rhinella y Telmatobius) que representan a tres familias distintas. A pesar de estar limitados por la presencia de agua, estos anuros poseen rasgos asociados a la vida en ambientes áridos y de gran altitud, que incluyen distintos hábitos y modos reproductivos.Los reptiles de la región presentan una mayor diversidad, compuesta por 25 especies de saurios repartidas en tres géneros (Liolaemus, Phymaturus y Pristidactylus) y dos especies de serpientes (Tachymenis peruviana y Bothrops ammodytoides). Este grupo también exhibe una gran variedad de hábitos ecológicos y modos reproductivos, que incluyen la postura de huevos o el viviparismo. En cuanto a su estado de conservación, la herpetofauna de la Puna incluye algunas especies de ranas amenazadas del género Telmatobius.
