La idea de tiempo social es el presupuesto de cualquier análisis sociológico del tiempo. Sea que se la entienda en un sentido ontológico, como tiempo correspondiente a un nivel de organización de la realidad, o en un sentido constructivista, como cuestión de enfoques y de métodos, se supone siempre una singularidad que diferencia a la perspectiva social de otras áreas, orientaciones y procedimientos interesados en el tiempo. Partiendo de la constatación de que se trata, no obstante, de una idea relativamente ambigua, la intención del artículo es sistematizar su contenido puntualizando los definiens básicos del término tiempo y los sentidos posibles del adjetivo social. Lo hacemos en diálogo con las principales contribuciones anteriores sobre el tema y con una intención pragmática más que normativa, que consiste en explicitar algo cuya latencia es fuente de malentendidos. Se argumentan primero los presupuestos desde los que se hace la aclaración, se informa brevemente de los antecedentes, se expone el núcleo del argumento y se muestran, por último, algunas de sus utilidades prácticas.

The idea of social time is the presupposition of any sociological analysis of time. Whether it is understood in an ontological sense, as time corresponding to a level of organization of reality, or in a constructivist sense, as a matter of approaches and methods, a singularity that differentiates the social perspective from other areas, guidelines and procedures interested in time is always assumed. Starting from the observation that it is, however, a relatively ambiguous idea, the intention of the article is to systematize its content by specifying the basic definiens of the term time and the possible meanings of the social adjective. We do so in dialogue with the main previous contributions on the subject and with a pragmatic rather than normative intention, which is to make explicit something whose latency is the source of misunderstandings. The assumptions from which the clarification is made are discussed first, the background is briefly reported, the core of the argument is exposed and, finally, some of its practical uses are shown.
