Abstract

Between the end of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth century, the Army began a process of modernization, bureaucratization and professionalization. The sanction of Law No. 2377 Organic of the Army and Navy Health Corps in 1888 was a significant milestone in this process. The article discusses the conceptions of the tactics of military health produced by military leaderships and officers in the first three decades of the twentieth century. It giving an account, on the one hand, about their perspectives on the experiences of argentine military health in the "civil wars" and in the "Campaign of Paraguay"; and, on the other hand, their understanding of the experiences of armies of other countries in wars that have occurred since the mid-19th century. I maintain as hypothesis that, in this period, the leaderships and officers of that Army corps defined a body of specifics knowledges and practices to the tactics of the health service. This body referred to the doctrines and experiences of the contemporary wars – mainly from the armies that participated in World War I– and strategic and tactical conceptions of the Army in the Argentine of this time.
