Abstract

The results of the investigations related to the finding of human archaeological remains of the Middle Holocene of two multiple burials located in El Divisadero, Ampimpa (Tafí del Valle, Tucumán, Argentina). This site involves a series of diachronic occupations ranging from ca. 5 000 years AP up to ca. 1200 years AP. The finding consists of twelve individuals dating from 4 000-4 200 years BP (ca. 5 000 years AP calibrated with 1 σ), placing these inhumations during the Middle Holocene in the context of a transitional period towards the lifestyles of societies food producers. This paper analyzes and discusses the preliminary contextual, chronological and bioarchaeological aspects of the burials, which provided information about the characteristics of the burial practices of the groups during this period for the area. Finally, the relevance of this finding is discussed in the context of other sites of similar chronology in the same study area
