Recently, Barasoain et al. (2020) described a new genus and species of a chlamyphorine (Cingulata, Chlamyphoridae), Chlamyphractus dimartinoi, from the upper Miocene of southwestern Buenos Aires Province, Argentina. This description documents the first fossil record of a ‘fairy armadillo.’ However, the generic name proposed by the authors had previously been used to nominate a fossil glyptodont (Cingulata, Glyptodontidae), Chlamyphractus Castellanos, 1940.
