Abstract

El objetivo de este capítulo es señalar algunas particularidades de los pueblos indígenas asentados en la provincia de Salta, con foco en los aspectos educativos, de acceso a la salud y al territorio queocupan. Se utiliza el término pueblos indígenas que proviene del campo jurídico, homologable al término pueblos originarios, más utilizado entre los movimientos sociales. Se pretende mostrar las condiciones que estos pueblos comparten con el resto de la población salteña, como así también sus características distintivas: modos de vida, organización socio-económica y relaciones con la sociedad mayoritaria. Para ello se pone en diálogo dos tipos de informaciones: por un lado, aspectos culturalistas, que presentan un listado de las pautas culturales específicas de los indígenas (vestimenta,modo de asentamiento, creencias, aspectos religiosos,lingüísticos, etcétera) y, por el otro lado, las políticas públicas que abordan diferentes aspectos de la temática indígena, como ser la salud, educación, vivienda, entre otros. Aquí se conjugan ambas perspectivas, a los fines de reconocer cuáles son los elementos tradicionales que mantienen estos pueblos, y cuáles otros se han ido modificando o reconfigurando producto del contacto, el conflicto yla negociación con la sociedad mayoritaria.
