Fisiología reproductiva de la vaca lechera

Abstract

En tiempos recientes se ha discutido si la producción de leche impacta en la fertilidad de la vaca lechera (Butler, 2003; Lucy, 2001). Las vacas de alta producción de leche tienen un mayor consumo de materia seca, lo que produce un mayor flujo sanguíneo hepático (1567 l/h frente a 765 l/h). Este incrementa el catabolismo de hormonas esteroideas al aumentar la tasa de aclaramiento/eliminación de progesterona y estrógenos en el hígado, lo que da lugar a menores concentraciones en la circulación periférica de dichas hormonas (Wiltbank et al., 2006), que conllevan cambios en la fisiología de la reproducción de la vaca lechera antes de la ovulación, en el momento del celo y tras la ovulación.
