Asentamientos (in)formales en ciudades intermedias y pequeñas metrópolis de Sudamérica: Estado de situación y debate actual

Abstract

La cuestión de los asentamientos (in)formales o irregulares ha ganado enorme relevancia en la agenda política mundial, transformándose en uno de los temas más recurrentes en los estudios urbanos, tanto académicos, como de organismos internacionales. En términos simples, se coincide en definir los asentamientos (in)formales como un conjunto diverso de modalidades de hábitat popular, caracterizadas por la alta (in)formalidad en la tenencia del suelo (producto de ocupaciones ilegales), la frecuente irregularidad en el acceso a los servicios esenciales y la fuerte precariedad urbana general.
