Digitaria sanguinalis

Abstract

Digitaria sanguinalis is an annual weed with a spring-summer-autumn cycle distributed in all tropical and temperate regions of the world. In Argentina it is found as a weed of summer crops from the province of Río Negro to the northern limit of the country. The species maintained and even increased its presence in direct sowing lots due to its great capacity to generate seeds and the emergence of seedlings spread over time through different cohorts that allow it to escape chemical controls. At the same time, it has a greater competitive ability than other summer species due to its rapid radical growth and its carbon (C4) metabolism.
