Nacionalsocialismo y Modernidad: Los aportes de una controversia historiográfica

Abstract

Las breves páginas que siguen presentan algunos resultados preliminares de uno de los seis proyectos específicos que integran un Programa de Investigación sobre la democracia y los nacionalismos en los conflictos del mundo contemporáneo. Partiendo del reconocimiento general entre los investigadores de la complejidad del nacionalsocialismo alemán en lo que se refiere a la particular mezcla y tensión de tendencias conservadoras y modernas, se comienza por una presentación de las posiciones que ponen el acento en la “modernidad”, para pasar luego a las críticas que desde otras perspectivas se han hecho a tal lectura del nazismo. Esta polémica tiene considerable importancia, porque las diversas interpretaciones implican respuestas diferentes a inevitables preguntas sobre continuidades y rupturas en la historia contemporánea, y sobre los factores y actores políticos y sociales que jugaron un rol en el ascenso del nazismo – uno de los más grandes desafíos que tuvieron que enfrentar los sistemas democráticos en el siglo XX -, así como sobre las posibles afinidades ideológicas entre ese y otros movimientos políticos. En la segunda parte se proponen ciertas herramientas analíticas y críticas que creemos aptas para superar algunos de los bloqueos que presenta esta controversia historiográfica, para lo cual se ha buscado lograr una interacción más fructífera entre la construcción de marcos conceptuales y la documentación histórica.
