Abstract

En este capítulo se tratarán los peces marinos que están presentes en el área costera de la provincia de Buenos Aires desde el sur de la boca del Río de la Plata hasta el límite sur de la provincia, y desde la costa hasta aproximadamente los 50 m de profundidad.Es necesario aclarar que la plataforma continental bonaerense se extiendeaguas afuera hasta los 200 m de profundidad, a una distancia de la costa que aproximadamente abarca las 200 millas marinas. Por ello, no serán tratados aquellos peces que ocurren más allá de los 50 m de profundidad por entenderse que constituyen comunidades de la plataforma intermedia y superior, con características oceanográficas particulares (Boschi et al., 1981; Angelescu y Prenski, 1987) y con una diversidad específica diferente.El área costera de la provincia de Buenos Aires es de variada estructura hidrográfica y es dable esperar que los peces se adapten a determinados ambientes y constituyan comunidades más o menos estables. Diversos trabajos han tratado la distribución y abundancia de los peces del área costera bonaerense (Menni y Gosztonyi, 1982; Anganuzzi, 1983; Menni y López, 1984; Díaz de Astarloa et al., 1999). Estos últimos autores analizan 82 especies que, de acuerdo con su presencia/ausencia y abundancia relativa, delimitan tres grupos ictiofaunísticos definidos por particulares características del ambiente en el cual ocurren, principalmente temperatura y salinidad. Esos grupos son: grupo norbonaerense, grupo surbonaerense y grupo de amplia distribución.
