Abstract

Hasta hace muy pocos años, en la arqueología argentina los reídos ocuparon un lugar poco destacado. Durante la década de 1980 se acentúan los estudios sobre aspectos taxonómicos, biogeográficos y paleoclimáticos (Tambussi yTonni, 1985; Tonni y Laza, 1980). En estos trabajos se dio énfasis a aspectos taxonómicos y se hicieron observaciones para diferenciar a partir de rasgos esqueletales entre Rhea americana y Rhea pennata (Tambussi y Tonni, 1985;Tonni y Laza, 1980). Si bien hay pocas diferencias morfológicas, los mencionados estudios resaltan caracteres constantes que permiten tal diferenciación,constituyéndose en una herramienta importante para la determinación de los conjuntos arqueológicos.
