Abstract

The species Neolimnius palpalis and Pilielmis apama are being recorded for the first time for Colombia and the basin of the Orinoco River lowlands, 25 to 60 meters above sea level (masl) in three locations within the Brazilian Amazon (Manaus- Par´a) and the Shielded Guyana (St. Laurent du Maroni-French Guyana) regions. The new records extend the range of the genera and the species to the northwestern South American sector and are reported at the highest elevation (200 masl) known for them. The information is supplemented with a distribution map for the Neotropics, along with ecological and water quality data for the recorded locations. The following Elmidae genera are noted as associated entomofauna to Neolimnius and Pilielmis: Hexacylloepus, Microcylloepus, Neoelmis, Stegoelmis y Xenelmis.
