Abstract

Los biocombustibles de primera generación surgen como primera alternativa a los combustibles fósiles. Los mismos se producen mediante la fermentación de fuentes de azúcares fermentables, como granos de trigo, maíz y otros cereales. Debido al conflicto originado por el uso de alimentos para la producción de combustibles surgen los biocombustibles de segunda generación que utilizan como fuente potencial de azúcares fermentables biomasa lignocelulósica. Los mismos poseen una estructura más compleja que requiere etapas de proceso adicionales para exponer los azúcares a las bacterias de fermentación. El biocombustible de segunda generación se produce utilizando material lignocelulósico.
