El artículo revisa el uso de la hormona paratiroidea (PTH) en el tratamiento de la osteoporosis,cuyo efecto anabólico consiste en aumentar rápida y substancialmente la densidad mineral óseaprincipalmente a nivel de hueso trabecular, mejorar la calidad ósea y reducir el riesgo defracturas vertebrales y no vertebrales en mujeres con osteoporosis postmenopaúsica.
