Abstract

Los museos guardan y exhiben bienes culturales con fines de conservación, difusión, educación y de investigación. Con el aporte de las nuevas tecnologías, la digitalización 3D de las colecciones abre inmensas posibilidades para realizar estas tareas de una forma más inclusiva y atractiva. Sin embargo, los museos públicos de nuestro país no han incorporado las tecnologías de adquisición y procesamiento de imágenes en 3D, a pesar de que éstas son conocidas y usadas a nivel internacional. El Centro de Investigaciones Ópticas (CONICET-CIC-UNLP) está desarrollando actualmente un proyecto un cuyo objetivo es digitalizar en 3D las colecciones de los museos de la Provincia de Buenos Aires, utilizando la técnica de fotogrametría digital y software gratuito. En el marco de este proyecto se transfiere gratuitamente a estas instituciones el sistema desarrollado y se capacita a su personal, para el manejo de esta tecnología. El proyecto brinda además asistencia para el desarrollo de programas de digitalización y conservación.

Museums store and exhibit cultural heritage, towards conservation, dissemination, education and research purposes. With the contribution of new technologies, 3D digitization of collections opens great possibilities to perform these tasks in a more inclusive and attractive way. However, public museums in our country do not even use 3D image acquisition and processing technologies, despite the fact that these are well known and widely used internationally. The Centro de Investigaciones Ópticas works on a project whose objective is to digitize in 3D the collections of the museums of the Province of Buenos Aires, using the digital photogrammetry technique and free software. Within the framework of this project, the developed system is transferred free of charge to these institutions and their staff is trained to manage this technology. The project also provides assistance to museums for the development of digitization programs and conservation actions.
