Provincia de Santa Cruz

Abstract

La Provincia de Santa Cruz, con 243 943 km² es la segunda más extensa de la Argentina, y una de las menos habitadas. Se caracteriza por sus extensos paisajes de mesetas sedimentarias o basálticas, grandes planicies cubiertas de rodados patagónicos y serranías cubiertas por estepas graminosas o de arbustos enanos en un clima predominantemente semiárido (150-300 mm lluvia), aunque hacia el oeste presenta también paisajes montañosos cubiertos de bosques y semidesiertos de altura y glaciares, con regímenes de lluvia de hasta 1000 mm. En este extenso territorio se reconocen 8 áreas ecológicas.
