La vida confeccionada entre retazos de tela: trabajo, vivienda y salud en inmigrantes bolivianos de la ciudad de São Paulo

Abstract

Se aborda el fenómeno de jóvenes trabajadores bolivianos de ambos sexos que emigran a la ciudad de São Paulo en busca de mejores condiciones de vida, determinadas principalmente por la posibilidad de encontrar trabajo o uno mejor remunerado del que tenían en origen. Mayoritariamente sin conocer el oficio previamente, la costura constituye con frecuencia la única opción de trabajo ?viable? en lo inmediato, ya que garantiza un techo, alimento y dinero. Los inmigrantes bolivianos y, dado el caso, sus hijos, experimentan diversos problemas de salud vinculados con las precarias condiciones de higiene, salubridad y trabajo presentes en el espacio de la oficina de costura (taller textil). Una parte importante de los sujetos no acude a los centros de salud para tratar estos problemas por desconocimiento, temor o barreras lingüísticas, pero fundamentalmente porque deben seguir trabajando, ya que, en caso contrario, no cobrarán el dinero por pieza producida.
