Abstract

Environmental contamination may represent a public health problem. We evaluated the bactericide power of a product containing hydrogen peroxide and silver salts applied by micronebulization in rooms with different frequency of sanitation standard operating procedures: a university classroom and an operating room. Before applying the bactericidal product, surface and air samples were collected for mesophilic count. Environmental samples were collected after 12 min of product application to determine the immediate effect. The residual effect was evaluated up to 17 h after application. In the classroom, the highest initial counts were observed on a lamp and floor. After application of the product, the best results were observed in the air whereas results were variable on the surfaces sampled. In the operating room, pre-treatment counts were higher in the air and floors. The immediate effect was totally efficient in all samples excepting floors, whereas the residual effect showed negative results up to 17 h after application. The alternative tested was effective and novel; therefore, its development would improve the efficiency of sanitation standard operating procedures in industrially controlled environments.
