Abstract

Ironically, from 1940 to 1955, cooperative diplomatic initiatives between Uruguay and Argentina did more to generate conflict and fear than to bring about friendly bilateral relations. Among the sarces of discord were US interventionist politics around Americas, wartime ideological simplifications, and the varied Uruguayan and Argentine perceptions of their nations regional and international roles.
