Abstract

Azorella compacta (yareta), habita en la Puna Argentina- Chilena, donde la elevada altitud (3000 m.s.n.m.-5000 m.s.n.m.) y las características desérticas de esta región le brindan rasgos particulares que hacen atractivo su estudio científico. Su importancia etnobotánica radica en las propiedades y usos que le atribuyen en la etnomedicina para el tratamiento de la bronquitis, asma, resfríos e incluso para curar heridas e incluso como antiinflamatorio. Los autores abordan por primera vez el uso a escala laboratorio de los extractos y de un ácido diterpénico de esta especie para el control de Spodoptera frugiperda, plaga de importancia agronómica en el Noroeste Argentino, y para el control de moluscos vectores de enfermedades parasitarias tropicales como la esquistosomiasis que presenta una alta incidencia en el Litoral Argentino.
