El sexismo ambivalente y su estudio en adolescentes

Abstract

Sin lugar a duda, uno de los mayores cambios a nivel mundial que caracterizó el siglo XX es la inclusión de la mujer en la vida social, política y económica, incorporándose a ámbitos que históricamente le habían sido negados. Noobstante, aún resta un largo camino para alcanzar la igualdad entre los sexos, ya sea en el acceso a trabajos bien remunerados o en la condición jurídica y política. Estas desigualdades de género pueden rastrearse a lo largo de toda la historia de la humanidad, aunque a principios del siglo XX emergieron diversos movimientos feministas que ejercieron presión para lograr un cambio a nivel social, político y jurídico. Desde una perspectiva psicológica, las desigualdades de género fueron inicialmente explicadas a partir del prejuicio sexista, comprendido como una generalización hostil, errónea e inflexible hacia un grupo social. Este prejuicio, al igual que otros (e.g., etnocentrismo, racismo, clasismo), se cimienta y sostiene durante la socialización de un individuo, enla construcción de su identidad social. En este capítulo se exploran algunos de los principales componentes en la emergencia del prejuicio sexista.
