Abstract

Este estudio se dedica al análisis de la lengua toba hablada en el este de la provincia de Formosa (Argentina). Constituye el primer abordaje lingüístico integral de esta variedad y una referencia para ulteriores estudios comparativos entre las formas de habla de las distintas regiones donde los grupos tobas han habitado históricamente. Consta de seis capítulos que se dedican a repasar la literatura etnográfica referida a los tobas del este de Formosa, presentar las unidades del sistema fonológico, analizar los componentes de la frase nominal -demostrativos adnominales, pronombres personales y demostrativos, identificadores demostrativos, posesión y las categorías de género y número- y la cláusula simple -sistemas de alineación, alternancias de la transitividad, evidencialidad, modalidad epistémica, adverbios, aspecto verbal y negación. Además, presenta una aproximación a las cláusulas complejas, considerando específicamente serialización, cláusulas de complemento, estrategias de relativización y tipos de coordinantes. Esta lengua no posee marcación de caso ni adposiciones, presenta tendencia a la polisíntesis, oposición verbo/nombre y marcación de núcleo en la relación entre predicado y argumentos. Cuenta con distintos afijos verbales que codifican espacio y dirección, algunos se comportan como aplicativos. Los verbos carecen de expresión morfológica de tiempo, en ellos solo se codifica aspecto y número verbal.
