El radicalismo yrigoyenista: Entre el patronazgo y la claudicación

Abstract

En lo que hace al radicalismo argentino el tema de nuestro capítulo- algunas investigaciones han asociado su desarrollo durante la primera década del siglo XX con una nueva etapa nacional de progreso económico y social, producto del ingreso a la política de sectores medios urbanos que crecían merced a los intensos flujos de inmigración europea (Gallo [h.] y Sigal 1965; Romero et. al.1965; Botana 1988). Desde nuestra perspectiva, criticamos la visión tradicional sostenida por los autores arriba mencionados que asocian la modernización política con el surgimiento del radicalismo. Por el contrario, partimos de la hipótesis que, si bien la irrupción del radicalismo en la vida política argentina está relacionada con una ampliación de la participación política-electoral, no necesariamente dio lugar a un nuevo proyecto político y económico nacional. Más aún, sostenemos que el patronazgo radical no puede ser reducido, como sugieren las investigaciones de Horowitz (1999) y Rock (1972, 2001), a la dimensión electoral basada en el intercambio de votos por cargos públicos, sino que es importante entenderlo en relación con ciertos factores histórico-políticos vinculados a la naturaleza del régimen político preexistente que terminaron condicionando los (nuevos) patrones de reclutamiento político supuestamente más ?democráticos? que debían caracterizar al radicalismo.
