Cordados invertebrados (Phylum Chordata)

Abstract

Los cordados constituyen un phylum de deuterostomios caracterizados por la presencia de notocorda, tubo neural dorsal y cola muscular al menos durante alguna parte de su desarrollo. A este grupo pertenecen los muy diversificados vertebrados, subphylum Vertebrata, y una serie de formas acuáticas, incluidas en los subphyla Urochordata y Cephalochordata que, por carecer de las novedades evolutivas que reúnen a los primeros, los catalogamos como invertebrados. Uno de esos caracteres novedosos de los vertebrados es la presencia en el embrión, de una estructura denominada cresta neural, la que contribuye a la formación del esqueleto cráneo-facial y de los arcos branquiales, entre otros rasgos típicos del grupo.
