Abstract

América del Sur fue invadida al menos dos veces por osos, la primera en el Pleistoceno temprano y la segunda sucedió hace al menos durante el Holoceno con la entrada de Tremarctos ornatus, el único Ursidae que habita América del Sur actualmente. Si bien el registro más antiguo para esta especie data de unos 7000 años antes del presente, se cree que su origen fue anterior como lo sugieren además los estudios moleculares y nuestros análisis aplicando índices de consistencia estratigráfica y construyendo árboles evolutivos sobre hipótesis filogenéticas previas.
