Abstract

The history of the housing, until it acquires its modern character, runs an extensive way of disciplinary, sociocultural, technological, economical and political crossings. The processes of change turn out to be significant to understand the crossings mentioned in the advert of “the modern”. Within the Argentine housing, especially en the urban scene of the middle social groups from Buenos Aires, the evolution towards “the bathroom” will turn out to be significant in the construction of modernity. In addition, and for the first three decades of the 20th century, domestic health issues will be associated to the women. The conjunction of both topics will expose a vital bond for the construction of the modern home. To understand these relationships from a historical-patrimonial perspective, arises following announcements of the magazine Caras y Caretas of Buenos Aires, between 1900 and 1929, through the joint analysis of texts and images by means of a mainly qualitative approach with quantitative contributions.
