Abstract

L’edificio-chiesa risponde a un intimo e profondo bisogno della comunità d’identificare il luogo sacro con il senso del trascendente e all’architettura spetta l’arduo compito di farsi linguaggio e interpretazione dei valori connessi alla natura stessa del sentimento religioso. Il mandato, delicatissimo, affrontato dall’architettura moderna e contemporanea, è stato quello d’interpretare il ruolo civile e ideologico dell’edificio religioso oggi, soprattutto nelle aree urbane, dove più rapidi e complessi sono i fenomeni legati all’evolversi dei modelli sociali economici e relazionali. La Milano del dopoguerra, ricca di architetti che il linguaggio moderno dell’architettura cercano ed esplorano, diviene luogo di sperimentazione di un progetto del sacro adeguato ai nuovi tempi, trovando nella tradizione del rito ambrosiano molti punti di contatto con le riforme che verranno. Chiese e Modernità ne propone alcuni episodi, raccordando idealmente progetti che ben rappresentano le molte declinazioni che concorrono a comporre l’idea moderna di chiesa.
