Today there is a tendency in the industry to move to Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) strategy, due to the remarkable improvement in Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE) it offers. The modern way of introducing CBM is to use e-Maintenance technology in order to have the information always where it is needed, i.e. by the machine which needs maintenance. RFID tags, smart sensors, Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) and diagnostic Web Services are examples of the key technological components of e-Maintenance. The paper describes these components of an e-Maintenance solution and indicates the financial benefits such a kind of solution can offer in the light of industrial examples.
