The role of cultural heritage in border areas: historical identities in Georgia and the Caucasus region

Abstract

The aim of the paper is to offer a point of view for the interpretation of the role of the boundaries in the definition of the identities of the people and the cultural heritage in the Caucasian region, with special attention to the case of Georgia. The research starts from the analysis of the historical representation of the ethnic identities with the intention of clarifying the function of the cultural heritage and, especially, of the architectural heritage, in the definition of the identities from the historical point of view.
