Las autodefensas y el paramilitarismo en Colombia (1964-2006)

Abstract

En este artículo se estudia el proceso de inicio y de desarrollo del paramilitarismo colombiano desde su surgimiento formal, en los años sesenta, hasta su desaparición formal, en 2006. Se analiza su evolución, sus resortes y las relaciones con diversos grupos sociales que le dieron forma, especialmente los campesinos y ganaderos, el narcotráfico y las Fuerzas Armadas. Se hace especial hincapié en el cambio producido entre las autodefensas -defensa legítima auspiciada por el Estado- y los grupos paramilitares, cuyo fin era acabar con la insurgencia, pero que terminaron dedicados a la delincuencia común y al lucro, mezclando intereses diversos.
