Los BRICS : ¿una verdadera puerta al multipolarismo?

Abstract

El término BRIC es bastante reciente en el vocabulario de las relaciones internacionales, en realidad se tiene noción de éste a partir del año 2001, cuando el economista global Jim O'Neal, perteneciente al grupo de inversión multinacional Goldman Sach, basado en indicadores económicos propuso una teoría que a grandes rasgos implicaba que para el año 2050 Brasil, Rusia, India y China serían los nuevos ganadores económicos y se establecerían como grandes potencias del siglo al tomar el 5°, 6°, 3° y 1° lugar de la economía mundial respectivamente. No obstante, a pesar de que el término está basado en la variable económica, para el 14 de abril del 2011, los BRIC anexaron un nuevo país a su club, siendo éste Sudáfrica, un Estado que por sus características económicas está muy por debajo de los miembros más débiles dentro del grupo original, por lo que su adhesión ha generado ciertas preguntas. --Introducción h. 4
