El gobierno dividido de los Estados Unidos en tiempos de polarización política

Abstract

Esta obra pretende acercar la figura del gobierno dividido o “divided government” en Estados Unidos a los lectores ya que resulta escasamente conocida en Europa a pesar de hallar una cierta correspondencia con la llamada “cohabitación” –cuyo modelo más conocido es el de la Francia de la Quinta República. El gobierno dividido es apenas practicado en el Viejo Continente donde el parlamentarismo, y no el presidencialismo, es la regla. De ahí que resulte oportuno fijar nuestra atención en este fenómeno tan relevante allí, y tan escasamente comprendido aquí. Por todo, esperamos que este monográfico facilite una visión clara y actual no solo de la figura del gobierno dividido en Estados Unidos, sino también del sistema político estadounidense en general, con una aproximación a su sistema constitucional. Para ello, la estructura planteada en la presente obra nos llevará a analizar las seis últimas presidencias, junto con todo el sistema de partidos y las relaciones entre los poderes legislativo y ejecutivo en Estados Unidos.
