Identitetsrik arkitektur

Authors: Olsen, Emma;

Identitetsrik arkitektur

Abstract

Tromsø has a rich history as a well-preserved wooden town from the 1800s, surrounded by spectacular nature and consisting of characteristic streets and alleys. In recent times, however, the city has been characterized by architecture that bears little relation to the character and identity of the place. In this thesis, I investigate how architecture can preserve and further develop the local identity by applying insights from registrations and analyses. In Booklet 1: The city - Registration, analysis and application, the aim is to investigate methods for how site analyses can reveal identity-creating elements in the cityscape. The analyses do not result in a design recipe, but serve as inspiration and reference when making choices to ensure that added architecture and restorations enrich rather than detract from a place's identity. The main focus is on visual registrations of how the situation is today, together with how this can be presented and applied in practice. Booklet 2: The plot - Three examples of application builds on the first booklet by utilizing both the results of the analysis and the methodology, along with showing the application value through concrete procedures for facade design of three infill projects.
