Brukermedvirkning i psykisk helsevern

Abstract

Background: Patient participation in mental health care involves nurses including patients experiences and needs for individually tailored treatment. Aim: The purpose of this study is to explore nurses experience of patient participation among patients with mental health disorders in mental health care. Method: A systematic literature review conducted using searches in Cinahl Complete and Medline, including seven qualitative research articles. The articles were analyzed using Evans method. Results: In this literature review, three main themes were identified. The nurse's role was linked to relationship-building, attitudes, and knowledge, all of which are essential for achieving patient participation in practice. The organizational factors addressed time constraints, lack of resources, and ward culture. The final theme concerned patient's experience and conditions as influencing factors on user participation Conclusion: A good relationship between nurse and patient is essential for supporting patient participation among individuals with mental health disorders. Nurses with negative attitudes, limited knowledge may reduce the chance for patient participation. Nurses experience that patient participation requires enough time and more resources. The patients disorder can affect the ability to make decisions, and earlier negative experience with the health service may affect their willingness to participate. Keywords: Patient participation, nurse, mental health care
