Abstract

Abstract Background: The proportion of elderly people living at home will increase in the future, while the number of nurses will not be able to keep up with this escalated growth due to the rising number of elderly. Health and care providers will be obliged to assess new interventions to cope with this development and to guarantee a good workflow among nurses. Some aspects of the answer to how to comply with this development relies on the implementation of welfare technology solutions, and this technology has both its advantages and drawbacks. Aim: The aim of this study is to explore how nurses in municipality facilities are influenced by implementation of welfare technology in their everyday routines. Method: Literature study based on nine peer reviewed articles found through systematic literature research, performed between March 2025 to May 2025. Results: The nine peer-reviewed articles show that the use of welfare technology changes nursing practices and requires new routines, technological competence, and modification of established routines. Challenges among nurses are also highlighted, such as technophobia, uncertainty about usage, and lack of training, which in turn negatively affects nurses’ attitudes. On the other hand, research also indicates that the use of welfare technology can increase patient safety, improve efficiency, and enhance information flow between nurses and patients may be weakened. Conclusion: lack of competence, attitudes among the nurses, adaptation of welfare technology, the nursing process is altered Keywords: Welfare technology, nursing, municipal home care service
