In this entrepreneurial master´s thesis, two teaching sessions in orienteering with a focus on problem-solving, have been developed and refined. The lessons are designed for lower secondary school students in the subject of physical education. The aim is to create a safer classroom environment by promoting the design principles of belonging, positive interdependence, and equality. My problem statement is: "How can problem-solving activities in orienteering promote inclusion and belonging in physical education at the lower secondary level?" I have also formulated two research questions to help answer the problem statement question and guide the development of the project: 1."How is collaborative orienteering teaching experienced at two different age levels?" 2."How can the teaching be designed to promote the three design principles: belonging, equality and positive interdependence?" A key finding shows that assigning roles within groups can help foster belonging and equality. This was particularly evident through the role of the "Joy spreader," which gave students space to express their opinions and maintain a positive atmosphere within their groups. The project also indicates that students who do not thrive in traditional physical education may develop a better self-image through varied activities that are not always physically demanding. The conclusion of the project shows that the two teaching sessions, based on the design principles of belonging, positive interdependence and equality, have the potential to contribute positively to the classroom environment. Through problem-solving tasks that promote collaboration, students can form new relationships within randomly assigned groups. The project appears to have a positive impact on students' self-image, particularly through their experience of mastery in cooperation with others.
