Abstract

Abstrakt Bakgrunn og hensikt/problemstilling: Triagering er en kritisk funksjon i akuttmottak der sykepleierens vurderingsevne er avgjørende for å sikre pasientsikkerhet. Feilvurderinger kan føre til forsinkelser i behandling og skape alvorlige konsekvenser for pasienten. Formålet med studien er å undersøke hvordan pasientsikkerheten påvirkes av sykepleierens triageringsprosess. Basert på dette, er problemstillingen følgende: Hvordan påvirkes pasientsikkerheten av sykepleierens triageringsprosess? Metode: Oppgaven er en litteraturstudie basert på systematiske søk i databasene PubMed og CINAHL, supplert med ustrukturerte søk. Ni fagfellevurderte forskningsartikler i perioden 2015-2025 ble inkludert og analysert tematisk. Resultat: Funnene viser at sykepleierens kliniske erfaring, kommunikasjonsevner, opplæring og evne til å håndtere stress påvirker triageringskvaliteten. Miljøfaktorer som bemanning, avbrudd og system støtte har også betydning for pasientsikkerheten. Konklusjon: Sykepleierens rolle i triagering er avgjørende for trygg og effektiv pasientbehandling. For å redusere risikoen for feilvurderinger er det behov for kontinuerlig opplæring, systematisk støtte og styrket pasientkultur i akuttmottak.

Abstract Background and aim/research question: Triage is a critical function in emergency departments where nurses’ assessment skills are essential for ensuring patient safety. Inaccurate triage decisions can lead to treatment delays and serious consequences for patients. The purpose of this study is to examine how patient safety is affected by the nurse’s triage process. Based on this, the research question is: How is patient safety affected by the nurse’s triage process? Method: This thesis is a literature review based on systematic searches in the PubMed and CINAHL databases, supplemented by unstructured searches. Nine peer-reviewed research articles from 2015-2025 were included and thematically analyzed. Results: Findings show that nurses’ clinical experience, communication skills, training and ability to manage stress influence the quality of triage. Environmental factors such as staffing, interruptions, and system support also impact patient safety. Conclusion: The nurse’s role in triage is crucial for safe and effective care. Reducing the risk of inaccurate triage decisions requires continuous training, structured support, and a strong patient safety culture in emergency departments.
