Tverrfaglig samarbeid i skolen - Muligheter og barrierer

Abstract

White Paper No. 34 (2020–2021) highlights growing challenges in schools, including bullying, student dissatisfaction, absenteeism, declining motivation and weakened learning outcomes. Many students face mental health issues and social difficulties, and schools, being one of the most influential environments in young people's lives, have significant potential to address and work with these concerns. By fostering interdisciplinary collaboration between school-based social workers and teachers, we can take proactive steps to prevent, reduce and resolve psychosocial challenges, thereby supporting the school's mission to cultivate safe, capable and engaged citizens. However, several barriers hinder the full realization of interdisciplinary collaboration. The process can be both time-consuming and complex, and the role and status of the social worker within schools are often ambiguous. Since school-based social workers are not a legally mandated part of the school system, their duties and responsibilities vary widely depending on local policies and priorities. Yet this flexibility also provides them with greater freedom than teachers, enabling more tailored, creative and innovative approaches to improving students' psychosocial environments. When the social workers and teachers collaborate effectively, they can develop a comprehensive understanding of students’ needs and implement targeted interventions to enhance students’ well-being, resilience and sense of stability.
