Samisk innhold i norskfaget

Abstract

The purpose of this thesis is to explore how new teaching materials and the Norwegian Directorate for Education and Training's support resources address elements of Sami topics. Little to no research has been conducted in this area since the implementation of Kunnskapsløftet 2020. The research question for this thesis is: How do new teaching materials and the Norwegian Directorate for Education and Training's support resources, address elements of Sami topics in the Kunnskapsløftet 2020?" The method used is qualitative content analysis with a hermeneutic perspective on a selection of textbooks and support resources. The main objective was to identify the selection of Sami texts and the academic presentation of fiction and non-fiction genres in the textbooks. Textbooks have historically held, and continue to hold, a dominant role and influence in school education. Historically, the Sami indigenous people have been underrepresented in Norwegian textbooks, and we found that this remains the case in our selected textbooks. Furthermore, we researched how selected support resources from the Norwegian Directorate for Education and Training could influence the work with Sami culture. Teachers are encouraged to actively use these support resources in their lesson planning, and many do so. We found that the digital curriculum guide sets clear guidelines for how teachers should utilize the curriculum. In contrast, the other support resource, the planning tool, does not provide such explicit guidelines. However, it can influence teaching through its guidance in the planning process.
