Kulturarv i norskfaget

Abstract

This dissertation sets out to examine the concept of cultural heritage and related concepts in the subject curriculum (LK20), and, furthermore, how the school’s governing documents conform to these concepts. The focus is on the Norwegian subject in lower secondary school, where we will analyse two textbooks written for the 8th grade: Norsk 8: Grunnbok (2020) from Cappelen Damm and Fabel 8: Norsk for ungdomstrinnet (2020) from Aschehoug Undervisning. The project’s research question seeks to clarify how cultural heritage is defined and understood, and how it is reflected in the subject curriculum, governing documents, and textbooks. The method employed in this research project has been a qualitative comparative study where we have used a hermeneutic approach methodologically to carry out a systematic analysis and categorisation. Moreover, the analysis has been carried out by close reading the texts found in the two textbooks to find out which texts are relevant to our thematic, and why. Furthermore, we have also examined the tasks accompanying the relevant texts to determine if they aim to ensure that pupils develop a knowledge of and an understanding of cultural heritage. Lastly, the purpose of the research project is to contribute to an insight into how textbooks, governing documents, and the subject curriculum, LK20, deal with cultural heritage.
