Abstract

The purpose of this study was to illuminate the experiences of bully victims when meeting with the school nurse. The aim was to increase school nurses´ knowledge about bully victims and thereby gain insight into how they can support this vulnerable group of students. Salutogenesis was applied as the theoretical framework. Systematic literature searches were conducted in three databases, resulting in seven primary articles forming the basis of the synthesis. The articles were analyzed according to thematic synthesis following Thomas and Harden. The analysis led to five descriptive themes, which formed the basis for three analytical themes, which are further presented in the study´s findings. The main findings of the study showed that bully victims largely experience that trust is the most important factor in whether they consider meetings with the school nurse as useful. Key factors for establishing a trusting relationship between the school nurse and bully victims included the school nurse´s professionalism, communication skills as well as her personal values and charisma. The ability of the school nurse to collaborate with school and other relevant parties was also something the bully victims expected and valued. The study has provided valuable insights into what can promote a trusting relationship between the school nurse and victims of bullying. It highlights the value of individual conversations and may contribute to discussions in the field concerning an approach that explores working methods that ensure the best for both the group and society while also ensuring that the individual receives the best support.
