Abstract

A water distribution model is a crucial tool for assessing the functionality of a water supply system through hydraulic simulations and analyses. This enables the detection of maintenance needs and opportunities for improvement, ensuring the delivery of safe and reliable drinking water to all. However, what are the prerequisites for developing such a robust model? In this project, our research question is "what are the requirements for developing an effective water distribution model and the water distribution models potential in Norwegian municipalities?". To address this question, the group delved into understanding the theoretical foundation of building a water distribution model. Subsequently, a questionnaire was designed to obtain a general overview of the status of Norwegian municipalities regarding the use of water distribution models, with 73 respondents completing the survey. Furthermore, in-depth interviews were conducted to elucidate the responses of a selection of respondents. In total, six municipalities were interviewed, including Etne, Gratangen, Rana, Sandnes, Sortland, and one municipality opting to remain anonymous. Godt Vann was also interviewed. Valuable insights were obtained regarding the municipalities' experiences with water distribution models and any challenges they encountered with existing models. Finally, possibilities for future concept development are discussed, integrating both the theoretical framework from the first chapter and the findings from both the survey and the in-depth interviews. Based on the responses from the interviews, a question arises about whether all municipalities actually require a water distribution model at all, considering the size of the municipality, which is also deliberated in the concluding section.

En nettmodell er et viktig verktøy innen sikker drift av vannforsyningssystem gjennom hydrauliske simuleringer og analyse. Slik kan man oppdage behov for vedlikehold og muligheter for forbedringer. Dette er viktig for å sikre at alle får trygt og pålitelig drikkevann. Men hva skal til for å bygge en slik god modell? I denne prosjektoppgaven er problemstillingen vår "hva er forutsetninger for å utvikle en god nettmodell og potensialet for nettmodell i norske kommuner?". For å svare på denne problemstillingen har gruppen gått i dybden for å forstå det teoretiske grunnlaget bak å utvikle en nettmodell. Deretter ble det utformet spørreskjema for å få en generell oversikt over Norges kommuner sin status i forhold til bruk av nettmodell. Spørreskjemaet fikk 73 respondenter. Videre ble det gjennomført dybdeintervjuer for å utdype svarene til et utvalg av respondentene. Det var dybdeintervju av 6 kommuner. Disse var Etne, Gratangen, Rana, Sandnes, Sortland og en kommune som ønsket å holde seg anonym. Godt Vann ble også intervjuet. Her fikk gruppen gode innspill om kommunenes erfaringer med nettmodell og eventuelle utfordringer med eksisterende modell som de opplevde. Til slutt drøftes muligheter for fremtidig konseptutvikling der både teorien fra første kapittel og resultatene fra både spørreundersøkelsen og dybdeintervjuene kombineres. Ut ifra svarene fra dybdeintervjuene ble det formet et spørsmål om alle kommuner behøver nettmodell i det hele tatt, basert på størrelsen på kommunen. Dette diskuteres også i den siste delen.
