Kvinner i Meldal – Arbeid og sysselsetting, og folketellingenes misvisende fremstilling

Abstract

Women's work and daily pursuits in the 19th and early 20th centuries, is a relatively new field of historical interest. Reacent years have provided thorough research on the fiel, but we know less about what small, local conditions were like. It turns out that women deserve more prase for their contribution to local economy in Norway than one might have given them credit for. This thesis will primarily look at what tasks and daily pursuits women in Meldal had in 1866, compared to 1910, and how society changed. In addition, it is examined how the two censuses' different registration practices conceal women's economic contribution to society. What do the censuses say about women's work tasks in Meldal in 1866 and 1910? How do the different ways of carrying out censuses portray women's work contribution?
