Samarbeid for utvikling av kollektiv profesjonell læring

Abstract

In this article, the starting point is our experiences with the Program for professional development in vocational education and training teachers (Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, 2015), which is a national strategy and initiative to promote workplace-based competence development. We raise a question about how participation in further education for vocational teachers can develop the vocational teacher’s professional competence? The study is based on focus group interviews with students and principals from four Norwegian counties who have participated in the vocational teacher program. Based on three aspects of the professional qualification: 1) arenas for competence development, 2) content, and 3) leadership, we systematize what students and the school leadership highlight as central when it comes to the development of professional competence. We identify collaboration and interaction between knowledge dimensions, organization, and management.
