Tensile resistance of bolts in threaded holes

Abstract

There are many standards governing bolted connections. Bolts in threaded holes are not however fully covered by them. Current Eurocodes determine only minimum thickness of steel plates, but length and width are not governed. The current thesis will investigate several bolt and plate assemblies of various sizes to ascertain how plate shape affects threaded assembly performance. To simulate the behavior of threaded connections subjected to tensile load, bolt and plate assemblies will be modelled using Abaqus FEM Software.
